Programme 1
The Machrie
When Gavin and Sue Davies purchased The Machrie there was relief in the golfing world that this remarkable couple has become the custodians of this ancient golfing venue. I first played here in 1995 and have returned many times since most notably with Louis when he was just 7 years old. Indeed this is where is broke 100 for first time in 2004 admittedly off the ladies tees but it was still a great achievement. So our memories of this place are golden and as we approached the hotel is was with some trepidation. What we discovered was nothing short of a miracle. The building has been transformed from essentially an old farm house to a 5 star luxury hotel but with subtlety and care that makes it quite clear that Gavin and Sue loved the old place. They have incorporated all of the history whilst at the same time providing a comfortable and modern surrounding that will undoubtedly secure the future of this gem. The restaurant too is superb. Both the food and view!! We give the hotel and the course 5 stars. You will not be disappointed.
The Ugadale
Built in the Victorian era of high ceilings and grandeur, this beautiful building was fully renovated by the American company Southworth ten years ago. Boasting large suits in the main building and delightful cottages beside the Old Clubhouse, and a sea view comes as standard.
Kinloch Hotel
A family built and run hotel, Kinloch is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Arran. Located on the south west coast, the hotel has fantastic views out towards Kintyre and the Atlantic. A gorgeous sandy beach is just yards away and most importantly Shiskine GC is just a short walk. We managed to play 12 holes before breakfast, another 12 before lunch and just finish our day 12 holes after dinner!!
Run by husband and wife team, Robbie and Barbara – they are attentive and delightful people who can never do enough for their customers. The food is wholesome and plentiful. The views are magnificent and the range of whiskies is more than we could consume. Whether you’re a couple or a group, Kinloch rates high in our recommendations.
