Programme 1

Seafood Cabin

Yes it’s off the beaten track but the Seafood Cabin is one of those places you just have to find. If you love seafood then maybe you should stay and couple of nights and sample the simple but comprehensive menu that allows you to sample freshly caught seafood. As you sit on the benches looking out towards Arran and the ocean with a bottle of Chablis it’s easy to forget every care you ever had. This is special – we loved it here and are sure you will too!!

The Old Clubhouse

at The Ugadale

The Old Clubhouse at the Ugadale is exactly what it says on the label!! This was the old Machrihanish clubhouse from the club opened in the late 1800’s and no doubt welcomed the likes of Old Tom Morris, Harry Vardon the great of yesteryear. More recently Open Champion Darren Clarke shared a pint of Guinness with friends after his round at Mach Dunes. An extensive menu is always on offer to accompany a little tipple after your round.

The Bakery

Situated next door to the Kinloch Hotel, this used to be the bakery of the hotel itself. Now run by an artisan baker using the equipment made in Scotland around 100 years ago and with flour that is not only organic but also made by artisans – what comes out of the many ovens is a joy. We spend a couple of hours filming here and by the time we left we had fallen in love with the owner and his produce. Make a detour to sample the delights of this place. You won’t be disappointed. BTW it’s only open in the mornings.

Lighthouse Restaurant

Situated on the west coast of Arran between Blackwaterfoot and Lochranza the Lighthouse Restaurant is run by two ladies who produce a menu that would rival anything in London. Local meats, freshly caught seafood and an abundance of choice are the great attractions of this fantastic eatery. We came back twice during our stay and both times we were spoilt for choice and ate like kings. All of this as we watch the sunset over Kintyre with the sea lapping in front of us. We didn’t see a lighthouse but after a 12 oz steak, langoustine and the freshest vegetables we were not complaining!!
